Backup Scheduler: Time Editor App Reviews

It took a few attempts to get it to work. It wouldn’t work when I set it for 6 hours AND when idle for at least 10 minutes. When I changed it to 6 hours OR when idle for at least 10 minutes then it worked. Now that I have it working, it has worked flawlessly. I check now and again to make sure it is backing up and it is. My laptop slowed a lot during backups so the default every hour in TimeMachine was a pain. Now I have it every 6 hours and it works for me.

Overall, the concept is great and the app is easy to install. However, it does not reliably run, depending on the Mac desktop / laptop environment used. My Macbook is pretty reliable. My desktop machine more hit and miss. There seem to be dependencies on Power Management, Sleep/Wakeup settings and it seems to miss a cycle after you first boot the machine. I’m sure there is some specific issue to be resolved, but I haven’t got to the bottom of it yet. Suggest reading the instructions on Power Management carefully and asking the author for more specific troubleshooting tips if you have problems.

My question - I don’t know if it is working? My machine (MacBook Pro - 15-inch, Mid 2012) doesn’t support “Power Nap”, as far as I know, and yet the backups seem to happen at the time I am hoping for. Rather confusing.

An excellent piece of software - at last the incremental backup is done, when I choose it to be done. The Scheduler is installed on a Mac connected via router to WD MyCloud and it is functioning smoothly. The backup, when in progress, does not disturb me in my work.

This app is the best and most flexible Time Machine scheduler I tried. I had configuration problems but developer was quickly responsive and helped me to solve the issue which was related to a previous installation of another scheduler. Great app, highly recommended. Apple should buy the code from this guy and incorporate the app in its Time Machine.

It works well- but has a quirky interface. It needs to be simplified.

This does the one thing I was always hoping Time Machine would have, more granular control over how and when Time Machine would invoke a Backup. It’s not exactly the easiest or the most complex thing to set up but you do need to follow or read the instructions and remember to turn off Time Machine in System Preferences as the script this uses takes over from the usual automated system in place. Other than that, it’s really set and forget.

This is one very handy app. I recommend to everyone. I don’t wont to backup system every 1 hour. With this app I control time, when to do backup.

Does what it says it will. Got it for the scheduling aspect since rotten Apple can’t seem to includ that functionality???? Haven’t had a need to retrieve anything from the back-up nor have I checked or verified data, but it seems to be doing them, every day at 3am.

If you want to customize your backup schedule, this is the best tool. It’s easy to use and unobtrusive. The developer does a good job of keeping the tool updated (minor bug with the upgrade to Yosemite that was addressed quickly). I’ve chatted with him a couple of times and he is responsive and friendly.

The application works as expected and reduces all the chatter created by Tine Machine with hourly backups. I would recommned that the intervals between backups be scalable,

BackUp Scheduler is just what every MAC owner needs. It allows us to continue our necessary backups on OUR timetable and not the Time Machine’s schedule. No more issue while watching an iTunes movie with stuttering and such when the hourly Time Machine back up kicks in. We also get to use the unique APPLE software of Time Machine to back up our MAC and important files on our back up disks. I’ve used this app for over a year and it stays updated with the latest OS X with no issues.

Backup Scheduler was working well until I upgraded to Yousemite. Then errors began to appear and is not unreliable. Have checked BU disk space and connectivity. Time machine set as stipulated in instructions (off). Now I don’t trust it.

This app works like a charm. Makes custom Time Machine backups so easy. It is so much more reliable than the non-App Store alternatives. I highly recommend it.

This is the way the Time Machine should have been programmed! Having the backup happen right in the middle of task is incredibly annoying. This add-on makes the program almost perfect!

It does what it says it does - keeps the crazyTime Machine in control. Recommended.

This app works great! I have three My Passport external drives and I have this app set on every 6 hours. The first drive backs up when I turn on the computer, the second 6 hours after that and the third 6 hours after the second, so each drive backs up once a day. Since my computer is on 12+ hours a day, that is great backup coverage over the whole day. Get it!!!!

Set it up and left it alone. Runs Time Machine backups while I’m sleeping so I can use those cycles while I’m awake. No muss, no fuss and the backups get done. Great if you’re like most people and don’t need hourly backups.
