Backup Scheduler: Time Editor App Reviews

It works!

I’m amazed that this feature isn’t a part of the OS, but oh well, chalk it up to another reason I miss Steve Jobs. This app does what it says it does and works very well.

Doesn’t work……….

My version of Time Machine backup scheduler ONLY does a backup when I press back up manually. It never does a backup at any ohter time even though I have it programmed to do one every 12 hours or whenever my iMac has been idle more than 30 minutes. Very disappointing!

Provides the feature Apple should have included in the first place

The software works well, exactly as advertised. The preference pane is simple and easy to understand.

Fixes the biggest problem with Time Machine

Time Machine is a great idea, but not when it backs your computer up every hour. If you work with large mutlimedia files, this constant backup can be a drag on your computer resources. Backup Scheduler takes care of that. It gives you full control over what backup schedule makes sense to you.

Still making Backing up Painless. 1+ yrs later

Current version does exactly what it says it will do. Very happy with the extra cost / purchase of this app. Backups happen & life is smooth. Would buy it all over again.

Another piece od app store crap

Just simply does not work not matter what you do. Have been to website to download whatever they suggested-it still doesn’t work. The backup scheduler is NOT what every MAC owner needs, just a waste of five bucks.

It only makes sense!

Not only does it work, but the small amount of money you pay for it is insurance that it WILL continue to work, no matter what OS updates land in the future.

Backup when idle for X minutes does not work as expected

The biggest issue I have with Time Machine is high resource usage after awakening from sleep. Typically, multilple processes contend for resources while my Mac performs various houskeeping duties if I’ve stepped away for a while. I had hoped that Backup Scheduler would delay Time Machine activity until I had taken a break. It does not do this. As soon as the desktop appears after typing in my password Backup Scheduler is already banging away on my Time Capsule backup drive. Time Machine activity shows hundreds of megabytes being backed up, which leads me to believe that the not only does the “backup when idle” function NOT work on wakeup, but it can’t be working AFTER I take a break either. Otherwise there wouldn’t be that much stale data that requires refreshing since I last used the system. Backup Scheduler seems to work OK for blocking the default hourly Time Machine schedule, but there are other ways to edit this schedule without purchasing Backup Scheduler.

XXXXXX

It’s so, so. What’s missing is that you can not choose what to backup????? AND, you can not pick what to restore. I mean if this is what customers want via. to back up their entire HD than it’s great. Otherwise, It’s just another copy cat’s duplicated from apple’s original program. Oval all it’s alright.

Who needs hourly backups?

I have only had this app a couple of weeks, now, and I am still learning how to use it; but it is easy enough to set up and get going. I set mine for daily backups, and Backup Scheduler has been doing that reliably. Maybe later I will want to investigate the other options that Backup Scheduler offers; but, for now, it is working fine — quietly humming along in the background, and causing no problems. I recommend this app to all Mac users who don’t need hourly backups.

Great for daily backups

I’m a backup fanatic. I have been using a Time Machine backup scheduler for several years. Having a Time Machine backup has saved my life at least twice, when I had hardware issues. I set it to back up between 2 and 6 am, over wi-fi to my Airport Extreme Time Capsule. That way my backups don’t hog the wi-fi network when everyone is using it. It’s a home network, but amazingly there are over 2 dozen devices using it. Backup Scheduler is new for me (my old app didn’t work with Yosemite), and seems to do the job.

Backup Scheduler - A Godsend to Me

I’m a solo consultant and venture investor with a large number of simulataneoud projects and so use a CRM to keep me organized. This often competes with my disk drive tfor attention when Time Machine back ups occur and everything boggs way down - a siutuation I can’t afford. Backup Scheduler completely resolved that problem. Now, I haven’t had a need to restore from memory, so,I’m trusting that works, but through the dashboard I have every incication that it will. Its a simple solution that gas made my life easier. One suggestion - their response time to emails is a little slow,so be patient with questions.

crap app

Fairly kludgy app that is not straight forward and with poor support. To make the functionality work, it requires installing some sort of helper script, which doesn’t install properly. Emails to support don’t receive a response. Also somewhat odd that you’re required to have Time Machine set to Off and have the app manage the process. In instances where you want to override the schedule and just have the Time Machine run, it’s unclear how to execute this. So many on/off buttons, it’s confusing. Apalling overall that Apple doesn’t have this functionality natively in Time Machine, and unfortuantely this is a crude and poor crutch to fill the gap.

Seems to work just great

Accomplishes just what I wanted. Makes backups when I want instead of every hour like the standard Time Machine. No issues.

Makes backups easy and convenient. Customer Support shines!

I like the way Time Machine works, but hate that you have no real control over WHEN it does the backups. Time Machine Scheduler does just that and does it well. Im not running Mavericks yet -- in fact, Ive got Macs running Snow Leopard and Lion still. When I installed it on Lion, I discovered that Time Machine Scheduler "entered" Time Machine rather than running a backup with Time Machine. (It worked fine on Snow Leopard.) I sent a quick email to the developer to let him know of the problem and he responded quickly with a "fix." You dont find that kind of responsiveness from most people -- especially on a product that is so inexpensive. Time Machine Scheduler now works fine on all of my Macs and I have recommended it to several friends. Its a great app with great customer service! Now my backups dont slow down my work. UPDATE: Since my earlier review, Ive upgraded operating systems to Mavericks with no problems from Time Machine Scheduler in any way. I does just what it should. Yeah, I know Yosemite has been out for awhile, but Im a late adopter. Regardless, this app does what it does perfectly with a price thats right.

This utility does exactly what it says,

This utility does exactly what it says, and over time will save you backup space.

Backup Scheduler - Works

Works very well, I reduced Time Machine backups to once every 24 hours and have had no issues on a 2012 Mac Pro and a 5K iMac both running Yosemite. Gave in four stars instead of five for their short instructions not being very useful and everything has to be the set up manually.

Not usually one to write reviews...

I’m not one to ususally write reviews but I truly appreciate the control over Time Machine Backup Scheduler provides. I liked it so much I recommended it to my son who has an older (2012) Mac Book Pro which we later found out does not support the “Power Nap” feature. This was quickly overcome by simple not putting the station into sleep mode and only placing the attached monitor to sleep. Overall, we are both very happy with this product and I would highly recommend.

Best scheduler for Time Machine out there

I got this app because Time Machine backups were killing me and I needed to control when they would occur. This app is the solution. Now everday at 5 when I leave work, the app turns on and backs up my day. I don’t have to worry about missing backups or having Time Machine running while I’m trying to work. Great app.

Very useful little app!

Very useful app! I love Time Machine, but I don’t need to back up every hour - once a day is fine for my needs. This lets that happen! Awesome!
