Backup Scheduler: Time Editor App Reviews

EXCELLENT APPLICATION

This app was easy to install and create a schedule the best fits my requirements. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is tired of being slowed down due to updating, it works to your schedule not theirs.

It would be perfect but

It would be perfect but I can’t let the computer go to sleep when it is scheduled to backup. My wife and I both have Backup Scheduler for Time Macine on our iMacs. I really like the flexibility of sceduling the backups. We have both of ours sceduled at 2 A.M. when it won’t slow down the other apps that are running.

Perfect tamer for Time Machine

I have two Macs on the network that are set up to do time machine backup to alternating network storage drives. Both running time machine at the same time caused backups to run a long, long time, if they both happened to be going to the same network drive at the same time. My macbooks are high end, so the overhead was not all that bothersome, but the runtime was. I installed Backup scheduler on both machines and set it to run once a day with one machine starting about 6 hours after the other. This has worked out well.

It simply didn’t work

I installed, and set it up as directed. didn’t work. then found i had to also download the script. Did that, but it still didn’t do a backup in the middle of the night as i instructed it to. I did change the sleep setting in Energy Saver to allow power naps, btw. So i have uninstalled it.

Works as advertised and easy to use.

I don’t need hourly backups. This app lets me schedule them when I want them, including backing up only when my computer is idle. For OS X Yosemite, there’s an extra click to download the “helper” app. No biggie.

No longer works.

I used to love this app, its saved my butt many times, but just recently ive noticed that its not backing up. It used to just be instant, I would come home and plug in my time machine hard drive, and thats it. I had it configured to backup every 5 minutes. But i realized some backups take more than 5 minutes so i bumped it up to 15 minutes. and that did the trick. But now it just doesnt work, i ended up using the stock time machine settings which is un-configurable. But whatever, it was worth the $2 or $3 i paid for it last year. Hopefully they fix the bug.

Great app, great support

I’ve been using this app for several months and I’m very happy with it. At first it would run on startup but now it waits until my macbook is idle for 10 minutes then starts its backup (as I set it up to do) - just what I want. I had a problem after updating to El Capitan but got a quick response from the developer and am up and running again. Great app.

This functionality should be written into Time Machine by default

This app does what Time Machine should do when it comes to customizing how you want backups to occur. The only thing I found is that the app doesn’t restart after the machine is rebooted.

Works fine n El Capitan

I was a little hesitant to turn off TimeMachine for using “Backup Scheduler for TimeMachine. Then I learned a bit more about TimeMachine and the tmutil utility it uses. Looked at the man pages (Terminal: man tmutil’) which provided incite into tmutil listbackups’ which lists all the backups recently done. listbackups displays all those tedious one hour backups, then when this Scheduler was started it showed my backups every six hours, as I selected (after idle for at least five minutes.) % tmutil listbackups<br /> /Volumes/TimeMachine/Backups.backupdb/iMac/2015-11-03-170120 /Volumes/TimeMachine/Backups.backupdb/iMac/2015-11-03-230413 /Volumes/TimeMachine/Backups.backupdb/iMac/2015-11-04-045825 /Volumes/TimeMachine/Backups.backupdb/iMac/2015-11-04-110103 Very happy camper!

Resource hog

I expected after I set it to only Backup during my Sleep. It seems to be backing up always. The setting Time Machine is set to off. I have it set to be backe Over all it is one fine device

New “getlist” issue

App works great but recent version throws an additional icon in my menubar of a spinning gear that never stops rotating. Offers the desciption “getlist”. Please fix - its annoying!!

better to use than apples time machine

allows you to use time machine whenever you want. I highly recommend backing up at night so it wont interfere with your day to day computing.

Fishy Fishy Fishy Dont Like Any Applications that asks me to download something outside of App Store

Current Review Jan 20 2016 With no response from the Developer to my previous review I checked out this App again and still cant beleive that without isntalling their Helper Script from there Website, this app does not work, to every other customer that has given 5 Star reviews do you folks not see this as a FISHY behavior by the Developer ???? Previous Review --------------------------------------- So far I really liked this app until the latest version asks you to go to their website to install a helper script without clearly explaining what it truly does, why can’t you bundle everything together in the app, why go to your site to install an add on script, this sounds and feels fishy to me Everything in the App Store can be audited for malicious activity so asking me to download an addon script from your website is clearly suspicious, I need and demand an explanation as a paid customer This is still the problem and I still dont understand why I need to install the helper script, to me this looks fishy

WARNING: Doesn’t actually start backups; wants you to install non-App Store script

Ridiculous. This app doesn’t do anything more than pop up a reminder to manually start a Time Machine backup (pointless and something I can do without giving $5 to the developer), unless you install a script from a 3rd-party site, which is a big red flag: If a developer doesn’t want to incorporate something that essential into the actual App Store product, which is subject to Apple quality control and virus/malware screening, then something fishy is afoot. I’m not about to take that chance and — based on some of the bad reviews by those who did — it sounds like the offsite script may not even work properly. Extremely misleading and suspicious. After purchasing, installing, and trying this bogus product, I am now extremely skeptical of the validity of all of the 5-star reviews posted. Now I just need to figure out how to pursue a refund, and report this scheme to Apple...

Works as advertised

Have had no issues with the APP - it does exactly what it says it will and without issue. Fairly straight forward to use and set up, no serious issues thought I personally like the Human User Interface of the earlier versios more - it seemed to provide more user flexibility. Once I set it up it functions in the background nicely without constantly asking me to authorize or execute some mundain routine. I would recommend the APP to anyone seeking to expand on the capabilities of Time Machine and don’t understand why Apple is so reluctant to provide these features in their Time Machine source code.

Support Failure

I used this app for a year on my Mac Mini, with it doing just what it was designed to do. But the last week the app will no longer turn on Time Machine, only telling me to install the helper app. I have done this several times with the same result. I then began to email the developer at the support email address. To date no response after multiple emails. I held off writing a review to give the developer time to fix the issue, but the silence is telling.

Very helpful app

I love having the ability to schedule TimeMachine backups —mine is set for once a day. It’s nice not to have to slow down once an hour or whatever time machine scheduled & fight for a hard discs attention I use Backup Scheduler together w/ the app. “Amphetamine"… which allows me to set schedules for how long my Mac is awake, asleep, or shut down. I can still back up to TimeMachine anytime I want — but now -my machine is scheduled to back up between 2-3:00 AM every day —when I’m done w/ it for sure…it backs up the selected drives & folders —and then shuts everything down until 9:30 AM —when it reboots. So everything is back & running as I left it when I step into my office. I like the app. I’ve had no conflicts w/ it on a 2009 MAcPro running MacOS X - El Capitan 10.11.4
